CORROSION PREVENTION– THE KEY CHALLENGES

• Today the automotive and other metal parts manufacturing industries are not only expecting world class corrosion prevention but also best in class deformation properties from steel manufacturers and their suppliers. We have worked with leading automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and steel mills to design state-of-the-art dry film lubricants and pre-lubes that work as both corrosion preventives and forming lubricants which excel in today’s complex and fast moving markets. 

• The building and construction industry is looking for defect free cost effective material that can be easily processed for their end use customers. Much of the cold rolled steel continues on for further value added processing such as metallic and organic coating. This needs to be free from defects caused by corrosion so that coatings will adhere well to the cold rolled steel substrate. We have developed corrosion preventives that provide excellent protection in all types of climatic and environmental conditions. 

• The white goods market relies on the use of metallic coated steel. As such it must arrive in exceptionally good condition, free from white rust and other surface defects. Products such as electrogalvanised coil have specific corrosion protection requirements that can not be met by older generation corrosion preventives. Our technology teams have come up with solutions that give protection to all types of metallic coated steel products.

Zerust® / Excor® a TVS associate has a wide variety of products that will meet your corrosion protection needs. Very often, we will jointly develop new products or modify existing products to meet the client's needs. The following are a sample of the various Zerust® / Excor® products categorized by application and by product series. 

Zerust® corrosion engineers go beyond VCI technology by offering a comprehensive system called Integrated Corrosion Technologies (“ICT®”). ICT® is our term for the various material and chemical sciences that comprise our Zerust® / Excor® packaging product system including VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) technology. Depending on the corrosion protection requirements and economic targets, Zerust® / Excor® ICT® products can be designed in one or more of the following combinations to provide the optimum corrosion protection system.

Physical material design and selection

The Zerust® / Excor® team will help you select the most optimum packaging material and design to meet your corrosion protection needs. The material may vary from barrier film, such as aluminum, to regular low density polyethylene depending on economic targets and performance requirements.

Chemical scavenging technology

Depending on the corrosiveness of the environment, the Zerust® / Excor® team may also incorporate our patented chemical scavenging technology into the selected base packaging material to neutralize any acid gases and prevent them from coming in contact with metal components sealed inside the package.

Chemical passivation technology

This technology is generally known in the industry as volatile or vapor corrosion inhibiting technology (“VCI”). However, Zerust® / Excor® chemical passivation technology is only active on-demand (making our technology last longer) and is made primarily of approved food preservatives (completely non-toxic and safe). The Zerust® / Excor® chemical molecules are deposited from the Zerust® / Excor® packaging material onto the metal surfaces and form a powerful molecular layer that passivates the metal surface and protects it from corrosion. This layer is invisible, dry and does not affect the physical properties or functionality of the metal in any way. The protected metal can be painted, treated and / or used straight out of the Zerust® / Excor® package without further cleaning.
